The truth or not the truth

When I was asked by Romesh to write an article for our new church bulletin I asked him what I could write about. He answered that I could write about something that happened in the Drop Inn. Well, actually there is so much that has happened that it would fill a whole book. Today, however, I would like to share a rather funny story.

A few years ago a young man in his mid thirties dropped in and introduced himself as being from Wales (he also told me his name, which I'm not going to mention here). He sat down and drank his cup of coffee with sugar which, in his case, was more sugar with a bit of coffee. He started talking about how we Christians were being robbed of the truth. He had certain proof, for instance, that Mary, the mother of Jesus, originally came from (hold on to your chairs) Wales! This news left my facial muscles in real pain as I was trying very hard to keep a straight face.

After almost half an hour of trying to persuade me into believing that Mary was after all a Welsh woman he shook my hand, thanked me for the coffee and said: "Andrea, it was a great pleasure for me to have had such an important conversation with you." I nearly asked him: "What conversation? If I remember correctly, you did all the talking."

Questions still remain when this story comes back to my mind and I'm afraid the answers will always remain a secret: How did Mary conquer such a great distance from Wales to Israel? Are we really being robbed of the truth, and had British Airways already started taking up their flights in those days?

We can't find any reference to Wales in the New Testament, but the story of the Flight to Egypt is well known. Reliable evidence suggests that the plane was being flown by Pontius the Pilot. —Ed
